Pitchfork conduct an impressively/scarily thorough rundown of every track ever by the soon-to-depart LCD Soundsystem. An appropriately nerdy tribute to self-confessed anorak James Murphy or an exhaustingly long waste of words on an already much chronicled group? You decide!

E-40 - In The Morning ft. Beeda Weeda & Work Dirty
“This is gonna be something ridiculous in the trunk. I’m talking about ridiculous, uncalled for slap. I gotta keep it one hundred. I’m talking about probably more slap than you’ve heard in years. I got a couple of them that’s really gonna fuck that trunk up. They’re probably gonna put a dent in everybody’s trunk. If they got some woofers in that motherfucker? The sound itself might start putting dents in the trunk. That’s how hard it hits. Certain tracks on my album hurt the trunk. You gotta adjust that level.”
My favourite quote from this brilliant interview with E-40 by Noz.

Really excellent article from Tom Ewing in The Guardian yesterday, which teases out some of the interesting contradictions at the heart of the steadily rising buzz about The Weeknd. For my part i like their mixtape, especially when it hews closest to The-Dream’s more angsty moments (like “The Morning”, a clear standout for me), but i agree that the songwriting isn’t always there yet. Regardless, you can expect this pair to get a lot more coverage than any conventional R&B album this year. You can download House of Balloons here

Don’t know much about these guys - a brief googling stint reveals they’re a trio from Brooklyn - but i’m enjoying this track that The Fader have available for free download. A leisurely eleven minutes or so of twinkly synths, sombre violin and some vaguely Nico-esque vocals. This is going straight in my “zoning out in 2011” pile, alongside Destroyer’s “The Laziest River.”
Burial’s first solo release in four years. Out next Monday.

Can’t think of a better way to commemorate Nate Dogg than DJ Stevie 1der’s superlative mix which stitches together almost every significant cut he featured on in his career. Just over an hour of the smoothest hooks there’s ever been.
